What happens if the Electoral College ends in a tie?

Could we have had Obama/Palin?  McCain/Biden?  Clinton/Palin?  Clinton/Biden?

A government teacher has put this site together for you.

This site should answer many of your questions!
Which of these people could become President?
Vice President?

John McCain                                Barack Obama                     Sarah Palin                            Joe Biden

Speaker of the House             President Pro-tem of Senate
Nancy Pelosi                              Robert Byrd                        Hilary Clinton                       Mystery Candidate

The Electoral College is not a place or a school.  It is an original provision of the Constitution, and is the process through which we elect our President and Vice-President.

The 23rd Amendment passed in 1961 gave 3 electoral votes to Washington D.C.  This made a tie in the Electoral College a possibility.  While the Constitution is a great document, one of its most controversial provisions, the Electoral College, could come under additional scrutiny if a tie were to occur.  I hope you enjoy this site!

If you thought the election of 2000 was interesting, wait until we get a tie in the Electoral College!
